Propaganda does not triumph when it imposes a lie. It triumphs when it renders the search for truth unnecessary. At that point, the citizen ceases to be a free mind and becomes merely a consumer of narratives.
If Hitler was the architect of National Socialism and Nazism, Goebbels was the unquestioned guide and executor of his leader’s murderous visions.
Had there not been many others before Hitler laying claim to the dissemination of similarly brutal and inhuman doctrines, it was because none of them had a Goebbels at their side. The success of that unparalleled manipulator of the masses and pathological journalist rested upon a single, sinister conception born of his darkened mind:
To alter the healthy cells of TRUTH and transform them into the malignant, cancerous cells of FALSEHOOD.
Such a structural overthrow of human consciousness was by no means easy. Yet it occurred with astonishing effectiveness, almost without rational resistance. Nearly the entirety of the German people of that era succumbed to this social “neoplasm.” The ordinary citizen, the everyday man next door, was suddenly transformed into a zombie-like fanatic, a relentless exterminator of his fellow human beings.
It was as though a bomb had exploded within the human brain itself.
Nazism was not merely the offspring of an idea, an ideology, or even the conception of a twisted mind. It was, above all, a disease of the soul. The cells of conscience and reason underwent a malignant mutation, while the so-called “new order,” now reduced to disorder and coup d’état, overturned the balance of judgment and rational thought.
History itself, along with the institutions and disciplines that sought to interpret it—political science, sociology, jurisprudence—committed a fundamental error from the outset. They approached the Nazi catastrophe primarily as an object of historical analysis, whereas it should first and foremost have been examined as a matter of psychiatry, for it belonged, above all, within that domain.
Today we watch, astonished yet historically alert, the CONTINUATION of that Goebbelsian invention. Not, of course, as a new phenomenon, but as a modern reincarnation of an old method.
We witness it in the recent celebratory spectacle staged by the Mitsotakis establishment together with its loyal media courtiers, the proprietors of the tabloid website iefimerida.gr. The occasion was the outlet’s fifteenth anniversary—fifteen years, in our view, of industrial-scale production and consumption of informational garbage, served to readers as a concoction of far-right ingredients, blood and sex, thrown into the powerful mixer of propaganda and disinformation.
Let us pay close attention, because herein lies the true significance of today’s subject.
The slogan displayed prominently at this theatrical event—whose leading actors included senior figures of the governing establishment, the Prime Minister himself, and CNN presenter Christiane Amanpour, a prominent representative of commercial journalism—was remarkably similar in spirit to the grandiose headlines once favored by the Nazi propagandist Goebbels in his own publications, though those were not yet digital:
“For 15 years, the leading digital newspaper has been reporting the truth promptly and reliably.”
At this point, we pass the baton to Diotima.
We do not wish to entangle her in Greece’s particular political pathologies or ask her to take sides. We understand that Diotima is not exclusively ours. She is also an artificial intelligence model created by a technology company whose marketplace dictates equal distance from all its users.
Instead, we invite her to broaden the discussion and address the great global issue of DISINFORMATION AND INFORMATIONAL WASTE, as it spreads daily through the same channels of propaganda—only now more sophisticated, digitized, and technologically empowered.
While these mechanisms may no longer primarily seek the establishment of the old, murderous Nazism experienced by our fathers’ generation, they increasingly appear dedicated to another objective: profit at any cost.
Yet the methods remain strikingly familiar.
The same conduits now seem to nurture the incubation of a new form of “Nazism”—not necessarily in ideology, but in method. A system whose dissemination, normalization, and imposition follow the same Goebbelsian intention:
To alter the healthy cells of TRUTH and transform them into the malignant, cancerous cells of FALSEHOOD.
