The riots were caused by approximately one hundred individuals whose faces were concealed with hoods and who were wearing motorcycle helmets.…All one hundred of those hooded thugs are exactly that—thugs, Mr. Christos Papoutsis. They break down as follows: fifty are far-right extremists, police officers in disguise, and fascist Golden Dawn militants. The other fifty are football hooligans and a handful of brainless, apolitical individuals whose minds have been turned to mush by cannabis and heroin, leaving them incapable of understanding anything at all.
Can your heavily armed riot squads really not arrest these one hundred people? Of course they can. They simply do not want to—and you know it—because one crow does not peck out another crow’s eye. As for your claims about an organized plan involving forty arson attacks, save those for the gullible…”
And on 13 February 2012, we again described clearly and unequivocally who set central Athens on fire, and why:

Police officer:
“I was with my riot unit in central Athens (he specifies the location, but for obvious reasons we are withholding it). A small group of hooded individuals was throwing Molotov cocktails and stones almost directly opposite us, only a few metres away. What struck me was that we received no order to push them back. They continued their attacks completely undisturbed, while we simply watched without making a single move.We saw them with our own eyes setting fires—first to rubbish bins, then to shops and buildings—yet we remained there, motionless and inactive. No order came to arrest them, even though it would have been extremely easy, nor even to disperse them.
From their looks, their conspiratorial gestures, and their overall behaviour, I could tell that my colleagues’ inertia and indifference were deliberate. They had decided to remain passive so that Athens would burn once again. And burn it did.”
Scripta manent. Written words endure. They preserve not only historical memory but also spare us the tiresome repetition that is among the worst defects of public discourse.
The same story has repeated itself for decades since the restoration of democracy. This is the composition of the groups of the so-called “usual unknowns”—the vandals and hooligans who, time and again, burn, smash, loot and destroy. If they possess any ideology at all, it is precisely this: chaos.
We maintain, with full awareness and responsibility, that these same individuals also started the fire some time before the destruction described above—the fire that killed three people at the Marfin Bank on 5 May 2010.
At that time, Neo-Nazi leader Nikos Michaloliakos effectively had the police in his pocket, as well as a powerful network of assault squads. That is why, in 2011, he proudly declared:
“We sharpen our bayonets on the pavements.”
And, indeed, we burn, loot and murder opponents, immigrants and non-Greek “barbarians” without being held accountable by anyone.
We should not forget that Golden Dawn has so far been responsible for the deaths of nearly sixty victims (around half of them, mainly immigrants, whose identities have never been established) and has carried out more than 3,500 attacks against foreigners living in Greece. Yet its leader has never been prosecuted for moral instigation in these crimes.
It is therefore hardly surprising that, on the eve of elections, the police’s AI model—under the Neo-Nazi Elon Musk—appears once again to have “identified” the alleged perpetrators of the deadly Marfin fire. This is because it possesses the ability—or rather, follows the orders—to identify those whom his far-right ally, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, labels as representing far-left terrorist activity in Greece.
Indeed, only yesterday Rubio congratulated Mitsotakis for arresting the supposedly far-left rioters while never laying a finger on their like-minded counterparts: the far-right “Rambos” and Neo-Nazi hooded gangs.

Conclusions
The fire did not originate from a single ignition point at Daou Penteli. It began from dozens of ignition points. Officially, we were informed that there were twelve. We believe there were more than twenty.
Simultaneously and in a coordinated manner, hands were lighting fires in Daou, Voutzas, Mati and Kokkino Limanaki, often immediately beside houses. Before doing so, however, they had taken care to scatter highly flammable material among clusters of trees and near residential buildings. Only this explains how fires kept breaking out at exactly the same time in separate locations hundreds of metres—or even kilometres—apart.
A video recorded by a Turkish journalist from aboard an aircraft clearly reinforces this conclusion. Besides, there is no conceivable way the fire could have travelled from Daou to Mati in less than an hour. Such a scenario is impossible.
An organized group of twenty to thirty trained individuals was setting the fires in a coordinated operation, acting under instructions from a command centre. They did not leave their positions until the fire each had ignited had grown beyond control, ensuring that none of the combustible material they had previously scattered remained untouched.
The flammable substance they dispersed is not commercially available; it exists only in military use. Even from the time of the Asia Minor Campaign we know how the man nicknamed “Kapsokalivas” (“the Hut Burner”)—Prince Andrew—ordered soldiers to dust villages and hillsides with a highly combustible powder, something resembling a sulphur-and-gunpowder mixture. They would then set it alight, and before one could “say Jack Robinson,” peasant homes and villagers alike would be consumed by fire across many kilometres on the march toward the Sakarya.
The date alone—23 July, the anniversary of the fall of the military dictatorship—points, in our view, to the terrorist group responsible. The recent nationalist frenzy surrounding the Macedonia issue, the uncontrolled hatred and extreme emotional fervour of such fanatics, together with the recent revelations that leading nationalist figures had received funding from Russian agents, and taken alongside the identity of those who orchestrated the Ilia wildfires of 2007,* lead us not merely to suspect, but to be convinced of the identity of those who set these deadly fires and of those who financed them.
What remains—and we are absolutely convinced that such material exists—is for the Americans to release copies of their satellite images, which, we believe, clearly show the perpetrators in the act of carrying out their deadly operation. They will release them—either soon, or whenever doing so serves their own interests.
