By a large majority, the European Parliament passed a report rejecting the “unfreezing” of accession negotiations for Turkey.
Because (among other things):
“Turkey continues to move rapidly toward a fully authoritarian model. The recent case targeting the main opposition party, CHP, and its legitimate leadership is the latest example of a broader erosion of democratic pluralism and the rule of law, highlighting the role of a judiciary that is being weaponized for political purposes.”
Meanwhile, Greece—which is (not) “moving rapidly toward a fully authoritarian model”—does not use the likes of Sanidas, Dogiakos, Tzavelas (read: the country’s Supreme Court) as weapons for political purposes.
“Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth”… lest I say something worse.
