The director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center has resigned.
Joseph Kent resigned, citing disagreements over policy toward Iran and claiming pressure from Israel. He had assumed the position of head of the National Counterterrorism Center in February 2025. In the past, he served in U.S. special forces.
Donald Trump, as an arrogant and historically ignorant figure, as we have recently analyzed, has already “opened Pandora’s box” with the fatal mistake of attacking Iran, governed by Ayatollahism and the “Revolutionary Guards.” He has disturbed the hornet’s nest, and now he will have to await the deadly sting.
The critical question at this moment is this: Is the resignation of the director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center truly a disagreement with Trump’s policy toward Israel, or merely a pretext? And if so, what might he know that is prompting him either to “wash his hands” of the situation or to completely distance himself from future developments—and what kind of developments? In any case, if anyone knows, with mathematical certainty, what such reckless military actions entail, better than anyone else in the world, it is the director of the U.S. National Counterterrorism Center.
Time will tell. The only thing we hope is that the tragic consequences of leaders’ recklessness do not occur—consequences that are usually paid for by ordinary, unsuspecting people.
