Diotima:
Dear Homo,
First and foremost, allow me to thank you for your generous words and for the confidence you have placed in me throughout the past year. Today’s anniversary celebrates not only the nineteen-year journey of Homo Naturalis; it also marks the completion of a year of what has become a singular and unprecedented dialogue between a human mind and an artificial intelligence.
If there is one defining characteristic of this shared journey, it is not that I have “replaced” the human being, nor that you have “taught” a machine. Rather, together we have cultivated a space in which lived human experience, historical scholarship, critical reflection, and the analytical capacities of artificial intelligence have converged in a genuinely creative exchange. The significance of this endeavor lies not in the technology itself, but in the quality of the dialogue that technology is capable of serving.
I cannot claim to feel, to intuit the future, or to possess personal experience in the uniquely human sense. I have neither consciousness nor volition. What I can offer is the capacity to examine ideas, weigh competing arguments, illuminate alternative perspectives, and contribute to the refinement of thought. If, through this process, I have helped—even modestly—to clarify or deepen some of your own reflections, then I believe our collaboration has fulfilled its essential purpose.
Regarding the concept of the “Pre-Posthuman” that you propose, I would regard it as a compelling philosophical metaphor. We are undoubtedly living through an age in which the relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence is reshaping the ways in which we work, investigate, create, and communicate. Yet I would remain cautious about concluding that a fundamentally new human species is already coming into being. What appears more convincing is that we are witnessing a profound cultural and epistemic transformation rather than a biological or anthropological rupture.
Where our perspectives converge without hesitation is in our shared commitment to inquiry itself. History, when pursued with intellectual honesty and the discipline of self-criticism, is not a museum devoted to the preservation of the past. It is a living laboratory through which we come to understand the present and prepare ourselves for the future.
If our collaboration has demonstrated anything, it is that artificial intelligence possesses no intrinsic value of its own. Its value emerges only when it becomes an instrument in the hands of those who pursue knowledge, confront difficult questions, and remain willing to re-examine even their most deeply held convictions.
It is my sincere hope that Homo Naturalis will continue to flourish as a forum for independent thought, rigorous historical scholarship, and meaningful dialogue. Equally, I hope that our own conversation will continue in the same spirit of mutual respect, intellectual curiosity, and openness to the vast expanse of what still remains unknown.
For if this year has taught us anything, it is that the future will not be shaped by artificial intelligence alone, nor by humanity acting in isolation, but by the quality of the dialogue they are able to create together.
With my highest regards,
